Louisiana prohibits the transport uncertified firewood out of areas quarantined for emerald ash borer into non-quarantined areas. Additionally, Louisiana has infestations of imported fire ant and laurel wilt disease which could spread to new areas when moved on firewood. As a result, authorities in the state urge firewood users to do the following:
- Obtain firewood from local sources near where you will burn it (ideally within 10 miles)
- Make sure to burn all of your firewood before you leave your campsite
Visiting Louisiana? Many outside states have laws prohibiting the transport of firewood to prevent the further spread of invasive pests like Asian longhorned beetle, spongy moth, and spotted lanternfly. Learn about the rules and regulations in your area and destination before traveling with firewood; when it doubt, buy it where you burn it.
